Gangubai Kathiawadi, directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and starring Alia Bhatt, will make its international premiere at the 72nd Berlin International Film Festival in February of next year. Gangubai Kathiawadi, a sex worker who subsequently became an underworld don in Mumbai, is the subject of the Sanjay Leela Bhansali-directed film. It's a crime drama based on a chapter from renowned novelist Hussain Zaidi's book Mafia Queens of Mumbai.

On February 18th, the film will be released in theatres. Gangubai Kathiawadi has been chosen as one of the films to be shown at the Berlin International Film Festival, which starts on February 10. Gangubai Kathiawadi will be screened as part of the Berlinale Special Gala, a portion dedicated to showcasing excellent cinema, according to festival organizers. Sanjay Leela Bhansali said in a statement that he was looking forward to the film's international debut at the 72nd Berlin International Film Festival.: "The story of Gangubai Kathiawadi has been very close to my heart and me and my team have given it all to make this dream possible. We take pride and honor in showcasing our film at the prestigious Berlin International Film Festival."

Alia Bhatt plays the title character in Gangubai Kathiawadi, Sanjay Leela Bhansali's first film, while Ajay Devgn plays a gangster who falls in love with Gangubai while teaching her the ropes of the profession. RRR, another film from the team, will be released next year. Gangubai Kathiawadi is Alia Bhatt's second appearance at the Berlin International Film Festival, following Gully Boy in 2019.
