Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is making headlines for all the wrong reasons today. ED (Enforcement Directorate) has summoned the actress to give a statement as part of its investigation into the Panama Papers leak. Her request for an adjournment was granted, therefore she will not be present for the investigation on Monday. Aishwarya had requested adjournments twice previously. According to reports, the ED has filed a money laundering case in the incident under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act of 2002 (PMLA).
The Panama Papers lawsuit has also brought up Amitabh Bachchan's name. The Income Tax Department is also looking into it. The ED received responses from Big B and his family members in 2017 in response to notices sent to them. According to the officials, notifications were given to the Bachchan family in 2004 under the RBI's Liberalized Remittance Scheme (LRS), requesting them to explain their foreign remittances. Millions of documents were stolen and disclosed to the public in the Panama Papers case in 2016. The German publication Suddeutsche Zeitung is said to have gotten the secret documents. The lawsuit centers on charges that the world's wealthiest and most influential people set up offshore accounts or shell corporations to avoid paying taxes. The Panama Papers were claimed to include more than 300 Indians.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was last seen on the big screen in the 2018 film Fanney Khan. The actress will next be featured in Ponniyin Selvan, a Tamil film directed by Mani Ratnam. The first installment of the film will be released in Summer 2022. In addition, the actress has committed to a worldwide initiative called The Letter. It's a cinematic version of Isheeta Ganguly's musical Three Women, and it'll be Isheeta's first time directing a film.
